Our mission is to nurture the success of the whole family on the journey towards stable housing through joyful child enrichment that alleviates caregiver burdens.
What families told us they needed
In November 2025, we spoke with caregivers at Jane Addams Place about what would be most helpful for their children and families. Their responses helped shape HAVEN’s programming:
- 100% said their children needed more support with schoolwork
- 88% said after-school programming would make it easier to work, attend training, or make appointments
- 88% said their children needed more opportunities for supervised physical activity
- 88% wanted more positive, constructive activities for their children
Whole families, not just kids.
Supporting the child, teen, and caregiver aren’t three programs. They’re the same one.
- Elementary-aged children
- We provide consistent academic, social-emotional, and creative enrichment through literacy, movement, storytelling, and the arts.
- High-school youth
- We create paid near-peer mentorship and leadership opportunities for teens living in shelter, giving them structured ways to build confidence, communication skills, and relationships with younger children.
- Caregivers
- By providing reliable after-school supervision, HAVEN gives caregivers more flexibility to work, attend training, make appointments, and take other steps toward stable housing.
